Tomorrow, the 14th of September 2022, Kazakhstan will welcome delegates of the 7th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Nur-Sultan. The first Congress was organised in Astana on 23-24 September 2003, discussing countering terrorism and extremism issues. The arrival of Pope Francis strengthens the importance of this year’s Congress, which is held during the time of the Russian war in Ukraine.

Pope Francis arrived in Nur-Sultan today, on the 13th of September 2022, for the three-day trip to attend the Congress. He will be meeting the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will be arriving in Kazakhstan tomorrow on the way to Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where he will take part in the Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. There is no confirmed news yet about the meeting between Pope Francis and the Chinese President.
